What is Machine Safety Audit and Certification?
Machine Safety Audit & Certification is a process designed to ensure the functional safety of a machine. Throughout the entire life span of a machine, safety must be considered beginning from the initial concept, risk assessment, design and engineering, operation and even to decommissioning. During the lifespan, itβs crucial that no harm, risk or hazard should happen/occur to neither man, machine nor the environment. The aim of this safety audit is to determine measures, eliminate hazards, or reduce the risk by applying Functional Safety to the machine. This is carried out by identifying the possible failure or faults that could lead to hazards in the machine which must therefore be analyzed in detail.
In order to achieve such analysis, various areas such as technology, architecture, and risk classification of a machine have to be considered. These requirements are identified in different standards. Various such standards are defined which must be taken into consideration by the manufacturers if they want to place their machines on the market.
The basic idea of this standard is to identify the functional risk and hazards which can occur by the machine in the future. To eliminate such disasters in the future Machine safety audit is done. Specific machines such as lifting machines, compressors, pressure vessels, etc do not come under this standard, it requires a special prerequisite defined in the factory 1948 act.
